A smooth, rich, delicious substitute for regular Lavazza
My husband and I both fell in love with Lavazza crema de gusto coffee brewed in a little Bialetti Mocha pot about 8 years ago. We would each have a delicious, rich, smooth cup of coffee/espresso each day and while it was just the one, we did have to admit the caffeine was not our friend. We both also usually find decaf coffee to be utterly boring and bland so we were pretty bummed out to lose our coffee ritual. Even the smell of the grounds as we filled the Bialetti made us swoon, so how could decaf live up to that?! Well, we bought one of these to try and lo and behold, it is really damn good. Great scent when you cut open the bag and the final result was surprisingly rich, smooth and satisfying. Now that we know this is so lovely, giving up caffeine has been less daunting and we can even enjoy a cup after dinner. The benefits of ditching the leaded version have been very noticeable very quickly; my husband is no longer snoring so he is sleeping better and woke up before the 6am alarm today for the first time in years, I also sleep better and we both digest our meals better and notice that skipping meals or eating late has no negative impact on blood sugar. His appetite has also returned to normal, which was apparently blunted enough by caffeine that it was tough to get him to eat enough for his athletic 6-foot body. Inflammation is also significantly reduced. We now also sip water with chlorophyll before and after having anything acidic but the aforementioned positive changes happened before that. If you do love the taste of really good, very strong but never bitter or burned coffee (looking at you Saint Arbuck’s Church), this is a great choice.

    Great coffee, different package.
I wrote an earlier review stating the package was different from advertised. The company quickly responded and the USA distributor confirmed it was the same coffee.

GREAT COFFEE POOR ADVERTISING GREAT SERVICE
The Lavazza brand of decaf expresso is the best I’ve had. When I see a deal on it I jump on it right away. This last time I jumped, I did so a little too soon. When shopping for coffee I usually break everything down to the per ounce or per pound price. In this case I saw $13.00 ($5.91 / lb). The product description under the picture advertised 8.8 onces (2 pack). The picture above shows only one package of coffee. This purchase was a no brainer, almost too good to be true. If I read it correctly I would be purchasing some of my favorite coffee at under $6.00 / lb according to how the ad read. So I purchased immediately. When Amazon’s delivery was on my door step ( on time as promised) when I got home I was very excited until I picked up the box and felt the weight and knew right then that it was not what I expected. I opened the box and confirmed my disappointment. I had bought 1lb of coffee for $13.00I called Amazon and told them what had happened and they totally understood and made amends by crediting my account for the total price and basically gave me the coffee. I was very happy with how Amazon handled the situation and I told them as much. But even so, I believe I would have been happier with 2lbs Lavazza @ $5.91 / lb then 1lb for free. BTW. Amazon also sent a message to the vender about the situation. Koodos

    love it
One of our favorite coffees is Lavazza espresso roast, which in the summer we brew and chill to make iced coffees with. We have coffee after dinner and needed to cut the caffeine a bit, so we have been making our coffee 1/3 decaf 2/3 regular, but the flavor of other coffees mixed with the Lavazza espresso wasn’t that great.I was pleasantly surprised to discover Lavazza made a decaf, even more surprised when I tasted it. Easily the best-tasting decaf I’ve ever had. Mixed in a 2:1 ratio with Lavazza Perfetto Dark espresso it tastes great, but also by itself, and both warm and cold. It’s particularly good with cream or half and half, but powdered creamer and milk also taste great with it.We use 55g Lavazza Perfetto Dark plus 20g Lavazzo Dek and water up to the 8-cup mark on the carafe to make a pitcher of coffee that we cool in the fridge overnight. For hot decaf only coffee we use 40g Dek and water up to the 4 mark on the carafe.I have found with a lot of Lavazzo coffees that you have to use more than you would other brands, which may account for people having experiences with weak coffee. It does make the coffee more expensive because you have to use more, but I enjoy the taste so much that for me it’s worth it.

The taste is good, but the coffee is weak
I’m working on reducing my caffeine intake for health reasons, so I’ve been switching to decaffeinated and caffeine-free products in the afternoon and evening hours. I used to have nearly a 2-liter a day coffee habit, so you can imagine that I am hooked on coffee pretty intensely. Breaking the physical habit was pretty easy- I just took naps every afternoon and took Tylenol for the headaches. The other part of the habit is psychological, I just love the taste and aroma of a hot coffee drink in the afternoon. I bought this coffee to fulfill that psychological need for a coffee drink in the afternoon. Unfortunately, this coffee didn’t meet my expectations. It is INCREDIBLY weak- like I need to use 2/3 of a cup of ground coffee to achieve one large rich coffee drink (think “Venti” size). I’ve used the caffeinated version of this coffee before and it was perfectly acceptable and fine, albeit not my favorite coffee brand. My only thoughts are that perhaps the decaffeination process used with these beans causes them to lose flavor? I don’t know. I won’t be buying this coffee again.

I had foresight to canvas opinions before I bought and many people said this was the one to try if moving away from instant and/or caffeine. Well, this and one other.I have been pleasantly surprised there is a nice bite (I drink it black if poss) and pretty much matches any caffeinated. I can not tell any significant difference apart from slight variation in flavour but that is also the blend. It is going to be a regular and I have given all round good marks as I it has lived up to the expectations that I had.
