Needs better packing
Product needs better packing. Arrived broken. Also, arrived very dirty. The box and items were completely covered in something gritty and white/grey like factory floor dust and debris. Product feels thin and cheaply made. I’m sorry to be mean, but I am being honest as I was really looking forward to using this set. I had purchased (separately!–matcha NOT included) powdered matcha almost as expensive as the set and now this is quite disappointing. Nice idea for a gift, but not in the condition it arrived.

Everything you need to learn to make decent macha tea, except the tea.
While the quality of these items is not the best, it’s certainly satisfactory. Of course, if they were the best, the set would be ten times the price if not more. And wouldn’t work any better, just be prettier.The most important element of this set is the chasen, the whisk used to froth the tea. You can spend hundreds of dollars on these beautiful objects, but though this one is far from perfect, it will work just fine and last long enough for you to decide if you like macha well enough to invest in a better one. The same goes for all the rest of the items. The kuse naoshi, the whisk holder, is a happy addition. It usually comes only with better sets. The glass measuring cup, on the other hand, replaces my favorite tea ceremony object, a small bamboo ladle. Easy to find in good kitchen stores.The chashaku, the long thin bamboo spoon in the set is what is used to scoop and measure the tea. The plain wooden spoon in the set and used in the video is odd and unnecessary. I’ve never seen the chashaku used to press the tea through the strainer, but okay.The bowl with a spout is a yuzamashi, a bowl meant to cool the water before pouring over the tea. It can serve as a chawan, a teabowl you drink from, but you might want to find one of those on your own.It’s a nice little set, great for a gift. Just get some macha tea to go with it. And maybe a true chawan and a book on the tea ceremony. The “manual” in the product description is just a two-sided piece of cardboard with not much information on it.The most highly regarded objects used in the Japanese tea ceremony–meant to celebrate and instill simplicity, respect, and humility–are the simplest, most humble, undecorated pieces. Yet fortunes have been spent in creating and finding those perfect simple, humble objects and in offering perfect tea ceremonies. A highly complex aesthetic has developed in the more than twelve centuries it’s been around.Lots of good little tea ceremony videos online, in you’re interested.

Affordable Matcha Set for newbies.
I’ve had Matcha before, but I am definitely not an expert. I wanted to try this set to add something relaxing and beautiful to my routine. I probably would choose a darker blue if it were available, but this set is perfect for what I wanted.I know that how it is packed can be a concern because you want the porcelain to be safe as it travels from a warehouse to your home. I took some pictures to show how mine was packed. Basically, it fits tightly in an outer box with one sheet of packing paper keeping the original box from moving. This is okay for short distance deliveries, but it would be nice if there was more packing. The dishes inside the original box have foam around them, but I have received other breakable items that had bubble wrap protecting the outer part of the original box as well. So, the set would be so protected that nothing would possibly break if it had bubble wrap around it and it was put into a bigger packing box with paper to keep it from moving around.It is fun to learn a new way to enjoy tea and this is exactly what I was looking for.
