Nice Portable Burr Grinder
I love making coffee with fresh ground beans and my French press. I have a nice burr grinder to use at home but wanted to have something to bring with when I travel. This portable burr grinder does the trick! It’s small, about the size of my 16 oz Contigo SS Insulated Travel mug, and lightweight. And I prefer burr grinders over stainless steel blades as they last longer, are more consistent with grind size and blade grinders the blades wear down over time. The unit separates into 3 pieces. One area to add your beans, one area to that collects the grounds and then the main unit with the motor to operator the grinder. This also comes with a USB-C charging cord to recharge the grinder. I’ve used this almost daily while traveling for about 3 weeks and have not had to charge yet, so I don’t know how long a full charge last. I like that it’s a USB-C charger since that is what my Android phone uses, so I don’t need to carry extra cords. This also comes with a crank, so if you don’t want to run the grinder or you can’t charge it you can manually grind the beans. I haven’t tried the hand crank but assembling it was easy and it seems sturdy.I am able to grind enough beans (with room to spare) for 2 large travel mugs of coffee. (I usually grind about 2-3 scoops worth). So, this certainly is sized big enough for 1-2 people. You can select your grind size by turning wheel on the grinder portion of the unit. Since I make coffee with a French Press, I choose the middle size. I have not tried to do finer grounds for a regular coffee maker, so I don’t know how well it handles that. I will say, I do get a small amount of fines at the bottom of my mug when I finish my coffee, more than I get with my grinder at home. But not an annoying amount, just noticeable. I’m usually finished drinking coffee at that point anyway since my coffee has completely cooled by then. I only notice when I go to clean out the mug after. One downside, and it was expected, is that this take a long time to grind the beans. I usually start the grinding first and then fill my travel kettle with hot water and start that heating and by the time the beans are down, the water is heated up. I’m not surprised it takes as long as it does to grind as the grinding mechanism is much smaller than my large burr grinder unit at home. So this is going to grind less beans at a time and take longer. What is nice with this unit is that it does automatically stop once all the beans are ground. It may run for a few seconds as you can tell by the sound that it doesn’t have any more beans in the grinder, but when it senses there’s no more, it will stop. The one thing this didn’t come with that I wish it had was some sort of small carrying case or bag for the grinder. The box that it came in is nice and I’ve used it for road trips, but if I’m traveling by air, I want something compact that fits in my luggage, but holds everything together so it’s not loose in my luggage.Overall, I think this is a great purchase for a travel burr grinder. You can buy travel size stainless steel blade grinders for less, but my experience, the money savings isn’t worth it.

It works slowly but very well. Best for small batches like espresso at home or camping…
Short version: Yes, I recommend this portable burr coffee grinder, for occasional use and small batches. It works slowly, but very well, except for very fine grinds. I’ll be taking it camping too.I got this specifically to grind espresso beans, for single or double shots, and avoid getting out (and cleaning) the big burr grinder for such as small amount of beans. The scoop that comes with this grinder is great for the purpose. One scoop of beans is good for a single espresso. Two scoops grinds enough for a double. It grinds very slowly, as you’d expect from a small rechargeable grinder, but I’m only making one or two at a time.Challenges: First, the font in the manual is small, making it very difficult to read. By scanning it, I have a readable pdf, although the grammar takes some effort to understand. Next, the twist directions to separate and reconnect the components can be confusing since they are non-standard, likely to accommodate the rotation of the grinder. If it doesn’t unscrew as you expect, go the other direction. My first attempt to grind espresso beans, I set it at fine grind. After a long attempt, none came out. Reset to the medium grind, it produced a very good home espresso grind. For espresso, I suggest the middle setting. For French press, the larger setting.Since it is very slow to grind and has a small grind container, I do not recommend it for a big drip coffee maker unless you have lots of time for sufficient batches. For my small 1-2 espresso needs, it is fabulous!Note: Although it pictures a handle for manual grinding, it was not included and the manual shows it as “optional”. Another reviewer gave a bad rating for its absence, but as long as it takes for the motor to grind, I would not want to try the manual method. So yes, I definitely recommend this grinder for small batch (e.g. espresso), use the middle to large setting, be patient, then run water through (not the motor) to clean up! It is great! 5 stars…

comes apart for easy cleaning.loving the colour combothis is great because it can be used manually.i need my morning coffee so if i come down and this grinder is dead i can still grind my beans with the hand crank.this is great for camping and travel. since most hotels and motels have pretty generic coffee grounds in the room. you can now bring your own and have a delicious morning cup of coffee rather than the sludge the have in the dining area.just an fyi about appliances in rented rooms. i read a travel article last year with advice on travel hacks. it was as good as the 5 minute hacks on youtube that are ridiculous. well this article was like that. they went on to say that you can bring less underwear. yup underwear, you know, the piece of clothing we wear that has the least amount of fabric possible. a travel hack they recommended is that you wash your underwear in the kettle. yes the kettle. like thereâs no bathroom or sink you could wash them in? they dry pretty quickly too. plus hello thereâs a shower you could use too! anyway, i am quite disturbed. i am as disturbed as i was when i went to a hockey tournie and the person i was with put ice straight into the bucket. ð¤¢. they did not use the supplied plastic liner bag. they also used the drawers for their clothes. YUCK! i donât hang around that person any longer. for obvious reasons.so you might want to bring your own kettle. you might also want to bring your own brewer. like one of those self drip filter dodads. or just bring that nescafé proportioned sleeeve of coffees.

As this is a portable grinder, I don’t expect it to be the same as a regular one. It takes a while (maybe 30 seconds to a minute) to grind 20g worth of beans, and it has plastic parts where my hand grinders have metal parts. However, this lets me work on other things at the same time, and in practice I don’t lose any time due to coffee grinding. There are 5 grind settings; at the largest grind setting, this gives the right sized coffee grinds for my Moka Pot and my Mizu-dashi / cold brew pot.It needs to be charged once every two weeks at most in my experience. There is a manual grinding attachment you can use if the battery runs out and you need it; a thoughtful feature for a camping trip imo.I dropped one star due to my concerns around the plastic components, but the final product is still something I use every day.

I have been using this grinder every day off that I have, and I use it several times. It is quick charging and uses 1, 2, 3, or 4 lights around the power button to indicate how much power is left when plugged in. The grinder automatically shuts off when it detects there are no more beans in the chamber. The grind size setting is fantastic. I found that the 2nd finest grind works the best for making espresso, and I have been sticking to that. It is easy to take it apart to clean, and it comes with a little brush, though it could be designed a bit better to fit all the spaces that coffee grinds get into. Honestly, it is so useful, I would only ever drop this from 5 stars if it stopped working suddenly.

So it works well; however, I get one use out if it before I have to recharge it. So as portable as it is, I can’t take it camping because I don’t have a charger that I can use daily to charge it. Yes, I could use the hand mill component which takes forever.
